Trade In Your Instrument

If you have something you're not playing or are looking to upgrade, it's worth considering a trade towards your next purchase.

Trading is often the easiest and fastest way to pull value out of your current instrument and get what you really want.

We're always looking for quality used acoustic guitars, banjos, mandolins, and ukuleles to add to our inventory, so feel free to get in touch and we'll see what we can do for you.

What we're looking for

We’re mainly interested in American-made acoustic instruments from well-known brands like Martin, Taylor, Gibson and Collings. Depending on the situation, we may also consider clean US-made electric guitars.

We're happy to take a look at anything you've got, but we usually pass on amps, entry-level imports, instruments from individual builders, and boutique items.

How we determine trade value

We'll start by looking at sold listings on sites like Reverb and ebay to see what similar items have selling for in the real world. We'll also draw on our own experience and knowledge of our market and customer base.

Once we come up with a fair market value, we'll offer a percentage of that figure as credit towards a purchase. The percentage is usually around 70%, but our offer may vary depending on factors like condition and desirability.

Some things to keep in mind

  • Condition is a bigger part of value than many people realize. Even a handful of minor dents and dings will have a big effect on the resale price.
  • We can often provide a rough quote by email or phone, but we can’t guarantee a price without an in-hand inspection.
  • As a business, we can't offer you full market value for your instrument. You can always get more for your item by selling privately through sites like Reverb, ebay, or Craigslist.
