Beginner Guitars

Tejon Street Music offers a wide range of beginner acoustic guitars. Below is a list of starter guitars for under $500.  These are models that we usually keep in stock, but we recommend calling  (719) 634-2228 or checking our current guitar inventory to verify.

All guitars listed here include a gig bag (a padded canvas case that zips up along the side).

Takamine Beginner Guitars

We carry a few Takamine acoustics for under $200.  These are good starter guitars for the money, but they also make great travel or camping guitars.

  • Jasmine S-34C, $159
  • Jasmine S-33, $199 $149

Art & Lutherie Beginner Guitars

We’ve tried out a lot of different brands of starter guitars over the years and feel that Art & Lutherie acoustic guitars provide the best value for the money.  The fit and finish is superior to most other beginner guitars in this price range and they sound great.  Art & Lutherie guitars are built entirely in Quebec, Canada.

Many of the Art and Lutherie guitars listed below feature a solid spruce or cedar top, which gives the instrument more resonance and therefore a fuller, richer sound.

Ami and Folk models have a slightly smaller body size.

Simon & Patrick Beginner Guitars

Simon & Patrick guitars are built by the same company that makes Art & Lutherie.  The two lines are very similar, but many Simon and Patrick acoustic guitars have a few small cosmetic enhancements that you won’t find on an Art & Lutherie, such as an inlaid rosette (the decorative pattern around the soundhole) and binding on the back of the body.

Seagull Guitars

We have a lot of people ask about Seagull guitars. They are actually manufactured by Godin, which is the same company that makes Art & Lutherie and Simon & Patrick guitars.  Seagull guitars took the essential components of the best hand-crafted guitars (such as solid tops and beautiful finishes) and built these features into guitars that could be reasonably priced.  Their unusual tapered headstock shape insures it will be easier to get your guitar in tune and keep it that way.
